Slimfast was a popular diet plan that many people attempted to use for weight loss. The success for Slimfast has more to do with who you are talking to then the Slimfast itself. We can learn a lot about what we need to do to lose weight though from Slimfast.
Slimfast was a series of nutritional shakes that people would drink instead of having a meal. Now what we get from drinking a shake is portion control since the calories are already set in the shake and we don’t have anything else with the shake then are calories are set. This is important as many people struggle with portion control.
The reason people struggle with portion control is not eating throughout the day. Once there is a gap in eating like 5 hours or so your body starts to crave sugar as it doesn’t have any more in the blood steam to use as energy. This is why we crave simple sugars like soda at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. By the time we get to dinner we can literally eat everything we see and have lost as sense of portion control.
When we eat a small meal at 3 o’clock we ruin dinner so dinner is another small meal. This is where drinking shakes actually works for weight loss. Nutritional shakes allow us to get a convenient small meal that we can eat at work, on the road, or where ever life has us. Nutritional bars can be substituted for shakes as well.
The other thing that happens when we go on a diet like Slimfast is that we start watching what we eat. The simple process of paying attention for the first time for some of us leads to a lot less wasted calories. One of the number one places people get empty calories that they don’t even realize is drinks. Sodas, juices, milk (is not fat free), and alcohol are loaded with calories that we consume very fast and often far more calories that we could ever eat at once.
The key to weight loss is keeping the metabolism burning energy all day long so you burn more total calories. To do this you need to eat small meals every 2-3 hours and shakes can make this easier for greater weight loss success.
