Live Lean Today has developed this diet plan of the type typically associated with HCG products. Even though we have Women in the title it works just as well for when, but the calorie intake may need to be increased. Because this is a very low calorie diet (VLCD), we must stress the importance of checking with your doctor before starting this particular type of diet plan. We recommend the daily use of a quality multivitamin. There are some additional requirements common to HCG Diets. Many of them recommend the use of oil and chemical free cosmetics, soaps, moisturizers, shampoos, conditioners, sunscreens, deodorants and toothpastes while participating in the diet. However, there is serious debate as to whether this is needed. Whether you choose to adhere to those recommendations is up to you.
During the first 2 days of this type of diet plan you are allowed to eat as much of any food as you like. Fatty foods are allowed and encouraged. Bacon cheeseburgers, avocados, pastries, ice cream, cheesecake, fatty meats, fried foods, whatever you want. The theory is that you need to store the fat and energy for the VLCD portion in Phase 2.
BREAKFAST: Tea, yerba mate or coffee in any quantity, without sugar of any kind. Only one tablespoonful of milk allowed in 24 hours. Saccharine or Stevia may be used.
LUNCH: 1 100 grams of beef, veal, chicken breast, fresh white fish, lobster, crab, or shrimp. All visible fat should be removed before cooking, and the meat must be weighed raw. It must be boiled or grilled without additional fat.
2 2 cups of one type of vegetable only to be chosen from the following: spinach, chicory, beet greens, green salad, tomatoes, celery, fennel, onions, red radishes, cucumbers, asparagus, cabbage.
3 One breadstick (Italian grissino type, thin, crispy) or one Melba toast.
4 An apple, orange, or a handful of strawberries (6-9) or one-half grapefruit.
DINNER: The same four choices as lunch (above). It is generally recommended to avoid eating the same meat and vegetable for both lunch and dinner.
The juice of one lemon daily is allowed for all purposes. Salt on a limited basis, pepper, vinegar, mustard powder, garlic, sweet basil, parsley, thyme, marjoram, etc. may be used for seasoning, but no oil, butter or dressing. Tea, coffee, plain water, or mineral water are the only drinks allowed, but they may be taken in any quantity and at all times. In fact, the [dieter] should drink about 2 liters of these fluids per day. Many dieters are afraid to drink so much because they fear that this may make them retain more water. This is a wrong notion as the body is more inclined to store water when the intake falls below its normal requirements. Drinking more an your body will start to flush it out of your system. The fruit or the breadstick may be eaten between meals instead of with lunch or dinner, but not more than four items listed for lunch and dinner may be eaten at one meal.” 2 small apples are not an acceptable exchange for “1 apple.” Many dieters have asked Dr. Simeon “why eggs are not allowed.” The contents of two good sized eggs are roughly equivalent to 100 grams of meat, but [un]fortunately the yolk contains a large amount of fat, which is undesirable. Very occasionally we allow egg – boiled, poached or raw – to [dieters] who develop an aversion to meat, but in this case they must add the white of three eggs to the one they eat whole. In countries where cottage cheese made from skimmed milk is available 100 grams may occasionally be used instead of the meat, but no other cheeses are allowed.”
Do not exceed 500 calories per day, and the way these calories are made up is of utmost importance. For instance, if a patient drops the apple and eats an extra breadstick instead, he will not be getting more calories but he will not lose weight. There are a number of foods, particularly fruits and vegetables, which have the same or even lower caloric values than those listed as permissible, and yet we find that they interfere with the regular loss of weight… presumably owing to the nature of their composition. Pimiento peppers, okra, artichokes and pears are examples of this.
American beef has almost double the caloric value of South Italian beef, which is not marbled with fat. This marbling is impossible to remove. In America, therefore, low-grade veal should be used for one meal and fish (excluding all those species such as herring, mackerel, tuna, salmon, eel, etc., which have a high fat content, and all dried, smoked or pickled fish), chicken breast, lobster, crawfish, prawns, shrimps, crabmeat or kidneys for the other meal. Where the Italian breadsticks, the so-called grissini, are not available, one Melba toast may be used instead, though they are psychologically less satisfying. A Melba toast has about the same weight as the very porous grissini which is much more to look at and to chew.
Some HCG Diet Plans recommend that if you reach your weight-loss goals after three weeks on the 500 calorie VLCD, you should increase your caloric intake up to around 800-1000 calories daily, eating the same types of foods from the list above, and continuing to avoid all sugars and starches. Continue this regimen until day 44. Other “HCG Diet Plans” recommend that Phase 2 should last no longer than 3 weeks. In any case, many experts would say it is not advisable to continue a VLCD longer than 6 weeks.
Some “HCG Diets” recommend that you continue into a “Phase 3” (continues for 3 weeks after Phase 2). Gradually increase additional proteins and vegetables into your diet, of the same type as in phase 2, maintaining a caloric intake of between 1,500 and 2,000 calories. Be sure to weigh in daily.
Some “HCG Diets” include a final transitional phase, (continuing for 3 weeks after the end of Phase 3) in which you gradually reintroduce (healthy) sugars and starches back into your diet. Continue to weigh in daily. As you increase calories after your 6 weeks we highly suggest using a appetite suppressor and fat burning supplement. This can prevent any yo-yo effect.
