The Catabolic diet works by eating food that requires more energy to digest. The goal is to burn more energy eating food than you consume so you lose weight. The Catabolic diet claims three times faster than starvation. The diet than consists mainly of fruits and vegetables.
The diet compares itself to starving yourself, so right away is a big red flag. Low calorie diets or starvation diets only cause your body to store fat and burn less calories. The Catabolic diet just seems to be another poor fad diet that attempts to starve people into weight loss. Quick weight loss with this diet would be water and no long term weight loss or actually fat loss.
The Rosedale Diet offers quick weight loss by avoiding carbs and saturated fat. The goal of the diet is get your leptin levels under control as leptin is a hormone associated with your ability to feel full. The Rosedale Diet offers long term results though what is interesting is that carbs are added back into the diet after 3-4 weeks. So long term results occur once you start eating carbs that is my underlining thought not part of the diet.
The Rosedale Diet is just another fad diet that feeds of people’s need for instant pounds drop off the scale. Carbohydrates absorb water to be utilized in your body. Once you cut carbs you lose water weight instantly, not fat. This is why diets like these cut carbs for three weeks so people see the scale weight loss. This diet won’t support fat loss and it adds carbs back in. The reality is carbs are necessary for healthy living and an optimal fat burning metabolism. Also, glucose in carbs is the number one natural appetite suppressant.
South Beach Diet
The South Beach Diet is one of the most popular diets on the market today. The reason for the popularity is the fast weight loss people see in the first week. Like all diets of this kind it is simply water. This diet promotes low carbs which just takes water out of your body. Though this diet is not a severe as the Atkins diet it is in the same mode. What the South Beach Diet feeds off of is that everyone talks about how much weight they lose right away. Your body can fluctuate 3-5 pounds daily just on your level of hydration.
If you want long term success is it all about eating balanced meals throughout the day. This is what worked a hundred years ago and still works today. Our diet challenges started during the industrial revolution. Before than we were a more agricultural country with less weight issues. The basic farmers day is set up with coffee breaks every 2-3 hours. When we took breaks like this and had snacks we stayed thin. Once we went to work in factories we decided we are too busy to eat and ever since then we just keep getting bigger. Eating 5 small meals is about creating a lifestyle which goes against the instant weight loss craze that people crave.
