So often our physical fitness is related to our self esteem. There are things that people can do that either positively or negatively affect their feeling of success regarding their diet and exercise plan. We all carry with us, or have in our home or office, trigger devises that signal to us different messages. The triggers around us everyday can send powerful messages of positive reinforcement or support us in our downward spiral.
Take a look around your house. Do the things around you give you a positive vibe or a negative one? For instance, a messy house, holes in clothes, photos of people who have hurt you, or even that old TV that you haven’t gotten rid of, all send signals that you are not worth getting what you say you want. On the other hand, clean furniture, your favorite outfit, or the treadmill you use all send signals that you are going to achieve your exercise and nutrition results.
Everything can be a trigger, it just depends on the meaning you place on it. Remember, the object doesn’t care, it is only you that puts meaning to the object. I recommend removing any object that doesn’t send you the right message. As you go through your house don’t forget to look at what is on your body. An old ring from a previous relationship can be a trigger you just don’t want. The more triggers than send a signal of I am worth it, I deserve it, and remind you of how great you are, the better chance you will have of being successful.
My favorite trigger is the watch. I heard that we subconsciously look at our watch some 30,000 times a day, and the relationship we have with our watch is how we feel about ourselves. Remember, you put the meaning to the watch, so you are unable to judge what another watch means to another person. What is cheap to one person might mean adventure to another. I actually pick different watches to wear based on the feeling that I want to have for the day. I have watches that mean to me friendship and trust, excitement and adventure, style and class, and one that I believe is flat out cool. Two watches hold special meaning to me. One watch was purchased 15 min. before I chose to quit my job as a professional fitness manager and start my own company. Whenever I feel the stress of owning my own business this watch triggers in me all of the reasons I do it. My ultimate watch tells me everyday I wear it that I am enough. Enough to achieve the things that I say I want in life. I believe we all can use a trigger that tells us that.
As you start your fat loss or athletic goal, I highly recommend going out and getting a trigger that reminds you about the good aspects of yourself. Watches, rings, or necklaces can be daily items you wear that will give you a constant boost towards your goal. With the struggle that some people have in losing weight, let’s send 30,000 signals that you deserve it. Whether you believe it or not, you do deserve it, so go get your results.
