It’s no secret that finding motivation can be hard, and many people don’t enjoy the actual process of working out. It is the desired result that keeps us going. We visualize what we want to feel like, look like and can’t wait to get there. Becoming healthy and fit doesn’t always have to feel like a scheduled routine of sets and reps. Even with the best of programs, it can become easy to lose your way once in a while and you should find things that you truly enjoy doing, and that don’t have you feeling like you’re working to get the results, but just enjoying the moments of being somewhere, and doing something that you like to do. It doesn’t have to feel like work and will help to get the results you are looking for while adding balance to your program. A great way to maintain your healthy lifestyle is to find activities you like and just enjoy doing them.
So what is it that we mean by activity? Really, anything you want that will have you actively moving around. We’re not talking about reading in a hammock or playing poker, but things that you can do to get your muscles moving and stretching, and your heart pumping a little harder for awhile. If you are just starting out and haven’t been active consistently for awhile, try going for a walk, bike ride, taking a leisure swim or doing some landscaping in the yard. Or try challenging yourself in a Yoga, Pilates or dance class.
Those of you who have been active for a little while, try adding hiking, running, tennis, or canoeing to your program. Maybe even join a local community or church softball, basketball or soccer team. Or challenge yourself by learning something new like scuba diving or kayaking.
Here is a short list of other activities that could make great additions to your program.
• Rock climbing
• Martial arts
