The Rice Diet Program originated at Duke University in 1939. It is a weight loss clinic designed by professionals including doctors, nurses, and dieticians, to help to treat obesity, heart disease, hypertension and diabetes, and has seen a high rate of success over the years. The professionals at the clinic provide supervision around the clock and provide you with the tools and encouragement to be successful. While having your meals portions planned, you can also attend workshops about diet education, support and stress management. Also provided are physical activities such as yoga.
The Rice Diet doesn’t only consist of rice. You will have choices depending on which phase you are in and the menu will change daily. Phase 1 consists of mostly fruits and grains and is highly supervised. It is recommended that you stay on phase 1 for at least half the time you remain at the clinic. Phase 2 will add choices of other fruits, veggies, lean meats, fish and other carbohydrates. Three meals a day will be served and they recommend you eat vegetarian until you have reached your weight loss goal. A medical professional will let you know if your condition will allow the addition of dairy or other meat products.
The cost of the rice diet is broken down weekly. The first week may run $2100.00, the second around $900.00, $700.00 and $500.00 in the third and fourth week respectively. The cost then drops to $490.00 for the remaining of the twelve weeks and if you stay past thirteen weeks, the cost drops to $370.00 a week. While suited for the morbidly obese population, many people who have the means financially have been successfully taking advantage of the Rice Diet program.
