When people ask me, “So what can I do at home for a workout?” I tell them their options can be limitless. For those who have child care commitments, irregular working hours, or just may be a little shy about working out at a gym, there are many opportunities for you to reach you fitness goals while working out from home.

Imagine challenging your body to its limits to get better results just by adding a little variety to your home workout. The number of exercises and programs available requiring little or no equipment is virtually unlimited, and everything can be done at home. Ones own body weight can provide a sufficient amount of resistance for many exercises including pushups, body squats, lunges, and hip raises. The use of a stability ball, small dumbbells and some tubing can be acquired for about $50.00 and can truly make your workouts more challenging and fun by adding variety and stimulation to get better results.
A stability ball can be used in place of a bench for such exercises as chest press, hamstring curls, or a dumbbell tricep extension. Pushups can be made more challenging by putting your hands or feet on a stability ball. A body squat can turn into a single leg squat, and lunge is harder when lunging onto a Dynadisc or even a pillow.

Resistance tubing can be purchased in different color coded resistances and will allow you to engage in many exercises that can be easily incorporated into a home program. The tubing provides resistance that dumbbells cannot by allowing you to move through multiple angles of movement. Exercises such as bicep curls, squats, and lateral raises can be done with tubing, but close the tubing in a door and add movements such as torso twists, a combination of a squat and row, or simulate multidirectional integrated movements such as swinging a bat, sawing a log, or throwing a punch. All three will work the hips, legs, abs and upper body.

Exercises can also be made more challenging by taking away some of your leverage or ability to balance. You can do exercises while standing on two feet and get a good workout, but stand on one foot and do the same exercise and now you begin to work a whole new set of muscles in the hips and legs you didn’t use before. Perhaps try a dumbbell shoulder press or bicep curl while standing on one leg, or try a dumbbell row while standing on one leg and bending forward.

Many simple exercises can be progressed by adding a little creativity. The result is you are creating more challenge and muscle stimulation, stronger and more stable muscles and joints, and you can burn more calories while working the entire body at once and therefore get better results.

To alleviate muscle tension in the upper and lower calf.

Exercise

- Sit on the floor with your legs extended straight in front of you and the foam roller placed under the middle of your calf muscles.

- Keeping the painful leg on the roller, cross the other leg over at the ankles to increase the pressure (optional). Placing your hands on the floor slightly behind you, raise your buttocks off the floor until your weight is being supported by your hands and the area of contact your leg has with the roller.

- Slowly roll your calf over the foam roller to locate the tender area.

- Once you have found it, keep the roller positioned under that spot, allowing the weight of your legs to apply pressure to the area until the discomfort is reduced by at least 75%.

- Progress to the next tender spot.

- Repeat on the other leg if necessary.

Where you should feel it

You should feel the tension in your calf muscles relax under the pressure followed by further relaxation when the pressure is removed and normal circulation resumes in that area.

Ephedra was the #1 selling diet ingredient on the market. Tons of dieters rushed to get their hands on products like Lipodrene, Stacker, and Hydroxycut that had effective forms of ephedra. Ephedra diet pills was popular for its two main functions first it was an effective choice for quick increases in energy and your metabolism’s ability to product energy. Second, ephedra works as an appetite suppressant allowing people to take back control over their cravings.

Is Ephedra Legal

Is Ephedra Illegal?

Ephedra alkaloid has been officially banned by the FDA. The important aspect of this statement is ephedra alkaloid. The six principal ephedra alkaloids that are included in the ban are ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, norephedrine, methylephedrine, norpseudoephedrine, and methypseudoephedrine.

Dietary products that don’t contain these ephedra botanicals are not illegal. Manufacturers have found a way to remove the banned ephedra alkaloid molecule out of the ephedra leaf while leaving the rest of the ephedra plant intact. These new versions of ephedra diet pills are legal. Over 8,000 bottles of these new ephedra products were confiscated by the FDA only to be returned to Hi Tech Pharmaceuticals stating that they did not violate the ban on ephedra. The new ephedra products are label as ephedra leaves or ephedra extract.

The most beneficial compound for weight loss is still left in the new ephedra leaves products. L-ephedrine is still present after the extraction process. Only .08%-1.5% of the ephedra plant is the banned ephedra alkaloids that are removed.

You see them in the health food stores, in gyms and on the internet in all kinds of forms – pills, protein powders and sprays. Nutritional supplements seem to have become a ubiquitous component of the fitness lifestyle, yet many of us view them with a guarded approach because we don’t know what they do and or which ones are right for us. So, here’s the skinny on some of the most common supplements on the market today and how they can help you reach your fitness goals.

The Missing Link

“The vast majority of the supplements that are available today are meant to fill a nutritional void that will either meet the normal intake of vitamins and minerals that you need to stay healthy, or help you take your fitness program to the next level,” says Charles Carter, certified personal trainer and LiveLeanToday.com president.

Join just about any fitness or diet program and the first recommendation you will receive is to add a multivitamin supplement to your daily routine. The primary reason for this is that the vast majority of Americans are falling far below the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of vitamins and minerals.

Truth be told, even when following the government sanctioned food pyramid, it is difficult to fulfill RDA recommendations, and let’s face it, the daily allowances of leafy green vegetables just aren’t making in to most of our dinner tables. The recommendations are meant to serve as a guideline for providing our bodies with the vitamins and minerals we need to consume on a daily basis to maintain optimal health levels. Vitamin supplements provide a safe and effective way to bolster your vitamin and mineral intake so that you can spend less time hunting down the best source of zinc and more time working on your other diet and fitness goals.

“The multivitamin is the easiest and most prevalent supplement available on the market today,” says certified personal trainer and LiveLeanToday.com CEO, Bryan Thomas. “I’ve been training people for 8 years, and it is the hardest supplement to get my clients to use because there is no visible result from taking it. And yet, it is a fundamental component to a healthy body that only takes seconds to include.”

Increasing Your Metabolism

Once you’ve answered your body’s need for the essentials, supplementation can assist with a variety of fitness goals from weight loss, to meal replacement, to performance enhancement.

One of the most common and most controversial varieties of supplements that people see in the general marketplace is the weight loss supplement. Essentially, the goal of weight loss supplements is to give you a boost by increasing your metabolism. While there are many varieties on the market today that use different methods to meet this end, many people who take them report increased energy levels and do see a visible weight reduction. While there can be some side effects, and you should consult a doctor before using any weight loss supplements, they are consistently the top sellers among the fitness supplement category.

Keeping Your Metabolism High Throughout the Day

While many people yearn for a higher metabolism, most don’t realize that in order to keep your body burning at a higher rate all day long, you have to feed it several small meals throughout the day and provide it with enough calories that your body doesn’t think that it needs to store fat.

Nutritional shakes have a long history within the supplementation marketplace for helping people reach their caloric needs without interrupting their busy lifestyle. Shakes provide a fast and easy solution when you can’t take time out to fit one of your five daily meals in.

Of course, as a person continues to build muscle and raise the body’s metabolism, daily caloric needs continue to increase until some body builders and athletes literally need to consume up to 6,000 calories per day. There are shakes for these individuals, beginners, and all levels in between. The key is not to choose the wrong one.

Since there is such a large range of meal replacement needs, when you purchase a shake powder, the easiest way to choose the product that is right for you is to shop for the one that suits your needs based on satisfying one meal of your targeted daily calorie consumption.

Providing Building Blocks for Your Muscles

Popular among trainers and professional athletes alike, are amino acid compounds, especially the glutamines. These are the key building blocks in your muscles.

Every time you work out, you actually break down your muscle tissue to some extent. While amino acids are naturally present in your body already, taking an amino acid supplement increases your body’s ability to rebuild and recover after your workouts.

Amino acids, such as glutamines, are not something that you can increase by changing your diet. They are primarily created by your body, so once your body’s production of these essential building blocks has topped out, supplements provide the sole means of bolstering availability to your muscles.

“People chronically underestimate the effectiveness of an amino acid supplement,” confirms Carter. “I’ve personally seen the simple addition of an amino supplement take a top rower, who was always somewhere in the middle of the pack to being the number one rower in our country and on our Olympic team.”

According to Carter, when you make sure that your body has the increased aminos that it needs, you can increase your workouts and without increasing your recovery time. A side effect that those of us who are not professional athletes also enjoy is that the aminos help you build muscle faster, helping you raise your metabolism for better weight loss.

Seeing a Big Difference, Fast

While an increased metabolism, vitamins, minerals and amino acids will help keep your body operating efficiently while you work out and recover, supplementation can also provide you with a level of energy and strength that you didn’t even know you had. While this level of supplementation includes a vast variety of products with varying degrees of credibility, one product that is consistently recommended by trainers for its safety and effectiveness is Creatine.

Creatine is a chemical that is found in your body naturally at some level. It is responsible for providing you with fast energy and power. Unfortunately, it is in limited supply, so once you use it, you have to rest while it regenerates.

Creatine supplements, in the recommended doses, provide fast energy, allow you to push yourself harder during your workouts, and have not been linked to any short- or long-term damage to your body. Creatine is not a steroid or hormone supplement.

“Creatine helps you tap into an extra energy system,” asserts Ashbaugh. “After working out with Creatine, the majority of people feel like they’ve only been working out at 75% of their capability without it.”

Doing exercise at varying intensities is a great way to increase your metabolism and burn more fat, yet there’s something else we can do that also helps to raise our metabolism; something that’s so simple we can all do it with very little effort. It’s keeping to a regular daily cycle of getting up, eating and sleeping. And it can have incredible results.

In keeping to a regular cycle your body will feel less stressed. Before the advent of artificial light, people would go to bed when it got dark and get up again when it got light. This is the way our bodies are designed to work and when we keep to a regular cycle our body is better able to work at its optimal level. And when we are functioning at our peak, we will burn energy more effectively.

Regular food intake is also very important to a good metabolism. When you wake up in the morning your body needs to be fed. You have effectively been fasting while you’ve been sleeping and once you’re awake your body wants to break that fast (hence, breakfast) and get some fuel to get it going for the day. Once you’ve eaten, your body will start burning more energy, including fat. Breakfast should be the first of five small meals that you eat throughout the day. Eating five meals rather than three keeps your body supplied with fuel right through the day and helps to avoid highs and lows in your blood sugar levels. If you sleep late your body won’t get the fuel it needs when it’s expecting it and this will throw your biorhythms out. Without energy to burn, your metabolism will be slow. This is why we feel tired and slow when we oversleep.

So simply keeping to a regular routine of getting up and going to bed at the same time each day, and eating regular meals, can have great benefits for your overall health. And it’s something that’s just so easy to do.

To keep your body working at its optimal level, you need to supply it with high quality fuel on a regular basis. This is the premise behind LIVE’s nutrition plan.

There are actually two factors that affect how well your body works: metabolism and nutrition.

In simple terms, metabolism is the process of taking the food you eat and converting it into energy. If you provide your body with a reasonably continuous supply of food throughout the day, you will maintain your metabolism at a fairly even level.

This doesn’t mean that you have to eat all day long, but rather that you top up the fuel that your body needs before the previous supply is depleted. It’s a bit like putting more gas in your car before the tank is empty or adding more wood to a fire before it goes out.

The best way to give your body a steady stream of fuel is to eat five small meals a day rather than the traditional three large meals. In this way you can avoid the highs and lows in blood sugar that can occur with less frequent meals. Also, when you eat large meals, you often give your body more fuel than it can handle at the time and your body just converts it to fat and leaves your energy levels depleted between meals.

Nutrition is related to the quality of the foods that you give your body. As you probably already know, not all foods are equal. If you tried to live on a diet of sugar- or fat-based foods you wouldn’t be as healthy as you would be if you ate lots of fruit and vegetables. You need to eat a balanced diet of foods from the five food groups – fruit and vegetables, meat, cereals, dairy, and fats and sugars – throughout the day. You can also make healthy choices within the food groups by choosing things like lean meat and whole grains, and keeping saturated fats and processed foods to a minimum.

If you want to feel fit and healthy there’s no better way to start than to eat five small meals a day, together with drinking plenty of water, exercising regularly and getting plenty of sleep.

There are a number of reasons why people embark on a fitness regime. Maybe it’s to tone up the muscles, improve athletic performance, lose some of that excess weight, or just for the general health benefits. Many people just do the same type of cardiovascular exercise and at the same intensity each day, whether it be walking, running, swimming, cycling or any other form of activity. They might see some improvement for a while but eventually they reach a certain level and just seem to stay there. At this point, their enthusiasm may start to wane a little.

But what’s wrong with hitting the road or the water and exercising for an hour each day? Isn’t that supposed to be the best way to burn fat? That’s true to a certain extent; long, low intensity workouts do train your body to burn fat while you’re exercising but they don’t really help you to burn all that much fat over a 24 hour period. The end result is that people who exercise only at low intensities will find that their cardiovascular endurance is good but that they may still have more fat than they would like and not a great deal of muscle tone. In an effort to overcome this, they might increase the length of time they exercise for but they’re still unlikely to see much improvement.

At the other end of the scale are the people who decide that, to continue to improve, they have to exercise flat out all the time. Maybe they’ll run or swim faster, or go to the gym and work out until they’re almost exhausted. The end result with these people is similar to the low intensity exercisers; they have great cardiovascular endurance but will often still have fat they’d like to lose. They feel like they’ve been pushing themselves as hard they’re able to and end up getting frustrated with the whole thing and feel like giving up.

The reason that so many people don’t continue to see gains in their health and fitness is that, for optimal results, you need to vary your cardio exercise routine and work at three different intensities from day to day. This is where using a personal trainer can be beneficial. They can work with you each day, providing advice and designing a fitness and diet plan specifically for you.

You still need to continue to do your low intensity run/swim/cycle sometimes. Your body can maintain low intensity work for longer periods. Around an hour of this type of exercise in a session is good. Don’t be worried though if you can’t keep going for this long when you start out. Just work for a length of time that you’re comfortable with and build the time up from there. As mentioned earlier, low intensity workouts are a good way to train your body to burn fat. When you’re working at low intensity, your body prefers to use fat as an energy source but it is only a part of the fuel that your body will use.

You also need to include some medium intensity work in your exercise program. This is where you exercise at just below your anaerobic threshold, which is where your anaerobic metabolism kicks in to enable you to continue exercising for just that little bit longer. When you’re working just below this threshold, it is your aerobic metabolism that’s keeping you going. This means that you are still using oxygen to get energy to your muscles. If you work at this intensity for a 15 to 30 minute session, your cardiovascular system will be working at its maximum level. You probably won’t be feeling very comfortable but your heart and lungs will be learning to work more efficiently to transfer the blood and oxygen to your muscles while still enabling you to continue exercising. The benefit of this type of exercise is that your body learns to use oxygen efficiently right throughout the day and it also helps the body’s ability to burn fat.

The third exercise intensity level is high intensity. This is also called interval training. It involves working at a level above the anaerobic threshold for a few minutes and then working at a lower intensity, or resting completely, for a short period. For example, you might sprint for a short time and then walk for a few minutes. In the sprint phase, you are forcing your body to go over the anaerobic threshold. During this time lactic acid will start to build up in your muscles. The rest periods allow your body to clear this lactic acid from the bloodstream so that you don’t start to cramp. This type of exercise will increase your body’s metabolism 24 hours a day. You actually don’t burn a lot of fat during these workouts but studies have shown that they actually result in your body burning more fat over the entire day than other cardiovascular exercise because they cause your metabolism to remain elevated after the workout.

Combining all three of these exercise intensities is the key to a good, fat-burning cardiovascular exercise program. Interval training, though, should only be undertaken after you’ve been doing at least three days a week of low intensity exercise for a minimum of one month, as you need to develop a fitness base first. The online personal trainers at Live Lean Today can design a training program to help you meet your individual goals. Before commencing any exercise program, it’s advisable to see your doctor.

Do you ever look at thin people with envy? Maybe you have a friend who you sometimes go out for a meal with who seems to be able to eat whatever they like and still stay really slim.

So what’s the secret? These people just have a fast metabolism that’s able to cope with the amount of food they eat. But don’t despair. A fast metabolism isn’t something that’s reserved for only a select few. It’s possible for anyone to get the same results.

The key to increasing your metabolic rate is to spread your food intake out more evenly throughout the day and increase the amount of exercise you do. Rather than eating the traditional three large meals a day, you should change your eating habits so that you have five small meals each day.

When you eat three meals, you use up all the energy provided by one meal before the next one is due. As part of the digestion process, the glucose that enters your bloodstream is broken down by insulin. Immediately after a meal your blood sugar levels are high, but after the insulin has done its job your sugar level will be low until you eat again. This causes your blood sugar level to go through a series of peaks and troughs throughout the day and leaves your body depleted of energy.

If you only eat three meals, by the time you’re due for your next meal your blood sugar is so low that your body is getting desperate for more fuel and you’re really hungry. This can cause you to eat more than you really need to. Your body then gets overwhelmed by the volume of food and can’t process it all effectively, so much of it gets stored as fat.

By eating five small, nutritious meals during the day your energy stores will be replenished before you get to the point of being overly hungry. Your blood sugar won’t go through high and low phases all day because you’ll be eating again before it’s had the chance to drop too far. Your metabolic rate will be sustained at a relatively even level right through the day. Your body will come to learn that there is always a good supply of fuel so it will burn more calories and also utilize some of your fat stores as energy.

If you also increase the amount of exercise you do, your metabolism will increase more and your body will burn even more fat. Then one day maybe you’ll be the one that others are envious of because you’ll be able to eat all day and never gain weight.

Why We Crave Carbs

Do you ever find that you’re feeling really hungry and craving sugary food? If there’s anything sweet in sight, you just can’t control yourself. That piece of cake just looks so good. It’s because of feelings like these that some people think that carbohydrates aren’t good for them. They think that the key to losing weight is to avoid carbs. But actually, Americans have gotten fatter since low carb diets came on the scene. Today, over 60% of Americans are overweight or obese.

If you find yourself craving carbs it doesn’t mean that carbs are bad for you. Cravings are our body’s way of telling us that it’s missing something. In Americans, the cravings are often associated with one of two things: the American custom of eating three meals a day, or low calorie diets.

If you eat three large meals a day, you’re probably eating more at each meal than your body can handle. Even if you’re eating nutritious foods like fresh fruit and vegetables, cereals or lean meat, if you give your body more calories than it can use at the time they will be stored as fat.

When you eat, your body releases insulin to process the sugars in your bloodstream. Any sugar that isn’t required at the time is stored in your fat cells. Once the insulin is released, it keeps on doing its job until all the sugar has been processed. At this stage, the levels of both sugar and insulin in your blood will be very low. If this happens, you can be left feeling tired and irritable. This is why, if you have a large lunch and then don’t have another meal until that night, you start feeling hungry around mid-afternoon.

This mid-afternoon hunger and tiredness is your body telling you that it needs more fuel to keep it functioning. Remember, there’s no sugar in your bloodstream at this stage because the insulin has already processed it all and sent it to your fat cells. So you start to crave foods with lots of sugar because this is what your body desperately needs. If you give in to your cravings, your body then releases lots of insulin again to process the sugars and the cycle of highs and lows of blood sugar continues.

Maybe you managed not to give in to your cravings and didn’t have anything to eat between lunch and dinner. Your body still needed energy so where did it come from? If there’s no other source, your body will convert muscle tissue to sugar to use as energy. The end result of this is that your metabolism will become slower. Your body will become accustomed to burning fewer calories and you will build up more fat. This is what happens if you are on a low calorie diet.

So back to the two reasons you crave carbs that were mentioned earlier. If you’re eating just three meals a day you are constantly putting your body through a series of sugar and insulin peaks and troughs and not providing it with a constant supply of fuel to convert to energy. And if you’re on a low calorie diet, you’re forcing it to find fuel from your muscles and slowing your metabolism.

So what’s the solution? If you eat more regularly and have five small, nutritious meals throughout the day, you will keep up the fuel supply to your body. You won’t go through periods of hypoglycaemia (which is when you have used all the sugar in your bloodstream) and you won’t need to draw on your muscles to provide the sugar you need. Once you get into the habit of eating this way, you’ll find that your cravings for carbs are a thing of the past.

If you’re trying to lose some weight there are two factors you need to take into account: nutrition and exercise. To diet successfully, just watching the foods you eat won’t bring success on its own. You also need to include some exercise in your daily life. Not surprisingly, this nutrition/exercise interaction also holds true in reverse. Just doing lots of exercise won’t work either if you’re not eating a nutritious diet.

To really get the weight off and keep it off, you need to have both an exercise program and a nutritious eating program. This will help to get your metabolism ticking over at its optimal level.

So what is metabolism? In simple terms, it’s the chemical reactions that take place in your body to turn the food you eat into energy to keep your body functioning. A lot of things can affect your metabolism, with food and exercise being two of the major factors.

The key to being fit and healthy for life is to do enough exercise and give your body the nutrition it needs to work at its peak level, as well as getting adequate sleep. Exercising will get your body burning fat as an energy source. Eating a balanced diet in small, regular, meals throughout the day will provide your body with all the nutrients it needs to keep going. Once your body gets used to burning fat and having a regular supply of high-quality fuel, your metabolism will alter accordingly and you will burn fat right throughout the day, not just when you’re exercising. That’s why metabolism is the key.

Is eating three large meals a day the best way to provide your body with the nutrients it needs? Opinion here is divided, with some medical practitioners recommending that five small, balanced meals, spread evenly throughout the day, is a better option.

Some people may question how they can find the time to eat five times a day but when you understand why this is believed to be a better way to consume your nutrients, you might decide that it wouldn’t be such a hassle after all.

When we eat, our bodies secrete insulin in response to rises in our blood sugar levels. The job of this insulin is to remove the sugar from our bloodstreams and move it into our cells. As this process continues, the levels of both insulin and sugar in our blood decreases. This happens every time we eat.

If we only eat two or three large meals a day, we have long periods of time in between meals when we are, effectively, fasting. Eating in this manner causes blood sugar and insulin to go through a series of peaks and troughs throughout the day – when we eat, our levels are high, then as we go into the ‘fasting’ period, our sugar and insulin levels become very low. This can lead to a condition called hypoglycaemia, which just means low blood sugar levels. The symptoms of hypoglycaemia can vary but can include hunger, confusion, irritability, sweating, and even heart palpitations. So if we are able to reduce these troughs by shortening the ‘fasting’ periods between meals, the chances of hypoglycaemia developing are reduced. This is why eating five small meals a day seems to be a better option. Plus, having smaller meals is likely to decrease food cravings and can even reduce mood swings. With smaller meals we are also less likely to overeat.

Nutrition plan

It’s really not that difficult to get into the habit of eating five meals a day. Live Lean Today’s meal plans can provide you with a weekly menu to fit in with your lifestyle.

Maybe now that you know why eating five small meals a day is a good idea you will be more inclined to give it a go. As most people these days lead busy, hectic lives, it’s helpful if one or two of our small meals are something quick and easy. One option here is to have a nutrition shake like Optimal Meal Formula Shakes. You just add two scoops to 10-12oz of water and mix.

So now you know how eating five small meals a day can assist you to have stable levels of blood sugar and insulin throughout the whole day. And best of all you’ll feel healthier and happier.

Introduction. Prohormones are precursors, or ‘one step away’ to a hormone. They, in themselves, may not provide hormonal benefits, but can easily be converted in to the required type of hormones, aided by various enzymes present in the body. This in essence, clearly differentiates them from steroids, hormone like substances. Prohormones are best suited for small molecules based hormones, such as testosterone, which require single step conversion to stabilize the hormone levels in the body. Proinsulin and Pro-opiomelanocortin are a couple of naturally produced prohormones in the body.

Over the decades, most athletes and body builders have preferred the use of prohormones to that of steroids. Prohormones help them get the reputed pumping up benefits of anabolic steroids, such as testosterone, without any of its side effects and risks.

Legal Status of Prohormones. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States now classifies prohormones supplements as anabolic steroids only, instead of dietary supplements earlier. Therefore, now even the prohormones are considered illegal. They are categorized under ‘Controlled Substances,’ resulting in ban on their selling and use. Their acceptance remains debatable, as their long term effects have not been thoroughly studied.

Sources of Prohormones. Prohormones supplements are usually available in two forms, liquid, and tablets, to replenish the body with the required type and level of prohormones. They are no more easily available as over the counter drugs in pharmaceutical shops. If extremely required, they should be taken under strict medical consultation.

Benefits of Prohormones.

Performance Boost. Prohormones help increase the body’s performance by reducing the body fat, and increasing the muscle mass & stamina.

Muscle Power. Prohormones help enhance the lean muscles mass, thereby enhancing their size, strength, and endurance.

Reduced Recovery Time. Prohormones help increase the male performance boosting hormone, testosterone, levels in the body, resulting in quick recovery, and several prolonged, performance packed sessions.

Fat Loss. Prohormones help induce fat loss from the body, resulting in lean muscle mass.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Some select prohormones are also used as an alternative option in HRT.

Side Effects of Prohormones.

Liver Problems & Hypertension. The introductory prohormones, such as Androstenidione (1996), 4-AD, 1-AD (1989), & M-1T (2003), were good in building muscle power and strength, but were detrimental to the liver and also led to high blood pressure. Soon, the evolved versions of prohormones came out, and the current generation prohormones are the safest till now with lesser side effects than their earlier issues. This has been achieved by doing away with the process of altering the chemical structure of the prohormones.

Sexual Complications. Most of the prohormones are precursors to more than one hormone. For instance, Androstenedione (Keto group) is a precursor to Testosterone (hydroxyl group), but unfortunately is also a precursor to estrone. Estrone is an estrogenic hormone causing adverse estrogenic effects in men, line with the illegal anabolic steroids, such as gynecomastia (feminized swelling of the nipples).

Miscellaneous. Other side effects of prohormones include acne, hair loss (male pattern baldness), and breast tissue enlargement, prostrate swelling, stressed up liver, and high cholesterol levels.

Prevent water loss from drying out your skin

Did you know that water is the main ingredient in most health and beauty products especially products designed to support the skin? It may be the most abundant ingredient though it is also the most misunderstood.

You have probably heard that water is essential for every physiological process, though do you think of water first when you want healthier skin? That answer is probably not. Your skin needs adequate water on a daily basis for enzymes in your skin to create new cells and remove dead cells. People who are dehydrated show noticeable differences in their skin’s overall look and smoothness. Dehydration that causes major skin issues if a chronic problem that is more than just a few hours of not having any water.

Dry skin doesn’t necessarily mean that you are dehydrated. Dry skin issues can be caused by different factors that need to be taken care of. The most important aspect to fight dry skin is to create a barrier for your skin. The environment impacts your dry skin when the temperature cools down and when humidity lowers.

I didn’t know I had a skin barrier. Your skin barrier is the layer of tissue that is in the middle of layers that form your skin. The epidermis is full of healthy fatty acids, cholesterol, and ceramides. This barrier layer when in good health is responsible for maintaining proper moisture and prevents irritations.

Why your skin dries out is that the barrier is broken which allows the outside environment to absorb water out of your skin. You often experience this as allergic and irritable reactions of your skin. Winter months do the most damage as your skin struggles to hold in moisture and prevent your skin from drying up.

How do we over come dry skin? One of the best ways is to add your own extra layer of protection. Moisturizers are typically made from the same types of compounds that make up your own barrier layer like fatty acids, cholesterol, and ceramides. Most moisturizers are a cheap and effective way especially in the winter to increase your skin’s barrier.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away,’ very few of us understand the significance of this statement and that of the fruit. Apple, the wonder fruit has several qualities that make it unique and much beneficial than many other fruits.

Apple is a naturally protected fruit with a special, fine, & beautiful waxy covering. The fresh and crispy fruit has high water content, while also containing the nutrients such as photochemical, quercetin, tannins, antioxidants, pectin, and natural fiber. Apple is low in calories. It does not contain any fat or cholesterol and has the additional abilities to control hair fall, diabetes, and hypertension.

Apple is blessed with unique anti cancer quality. It even reduces the risk of heart disease, & respiratory problems (including asthma). The fruit is also effective in the treatment of constipation and diarrhea. It contains Vitamin A to strengthen our bones & teeth, while keeping our vision sharp. Moreover, apple contains a type of phenol, which reduces bad cholesterol and increases the levels of good cholesterol and phytonutrients in the body. The raised levels of these chemicals prevent the occurrence of neurodegenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease).

Not to forget, the great tasting apple occurs in different flavors and colors such as green, red, and golden. Therefore, add apple as an indispensable part of your diet to live a long and healthy life!

What are the symptoms of menopause

Menopause is a natural indicator of the onset of aging process in a woman. It is also considered as a turning point of life and partially temperament also, as the woman stops having her menstrual cycle. The average age of the occurrence of menopause is 50 years, though it can occur as early as in mid-40s.

Menopause is the end of a woman’s productive years, as her ovaries stop releasing eggs into the fallopian tube. As a result, the production of estrogen and progesterone hormones in the body falls. Some of the commonest symptoms of menopause include unusually heavy or light, skipped or irregular periods, or sudden warm feeling in the upper portion of your body. Other associated symptoms of menopause are, vaginal dryness, bladder irritability, dryness in mouth, skin, & eyes, headache, short memory, insomnia, and mood swings.

Menopause does not require any treatment unless it bothers you. One should however, go for annual medical checkups as the risks of heart disease, cancer, and bone thinning (osteoporosis) increase greatly after menopause.

Perimenopause is a phase, which occurs during the reproductive years of a woman, 8 to 10 years before the onset of menopause. Perimenopause occurs when the ovaries begin to produce less estrogen. It occurs normally in 40s, but can be seen in late 30s also, depending upon certain factors such as some radiation therapy.

Few activities that can help you cope with the after effects of menopause are:

Quitting smoking and drinking

Daily exercises, including walking

Drinking ample water every day

Taking sufficient sleep

Take multi vitamin supplements and calcium, as prescribed by a doctor

Is Casein protein a complete protein souce solution

Amino acid which is fundamental to life, chemically speaking it is a molecule made of amine and carboxyl functional groups and to put it in simple terms it is made of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen and rarely sulphur too is found in the chain like structure of amino acid. In biochemistry it is alpha-amino acids with an organic substituent. The amino and carboxylate groups are attached to the same carbon and difference among alpha amino acids occurs due to which side chain they are attached to of the alpha carbon. They are of different sizes.

There are amino acids which are not of life forms but non natural which are used in technology and industry.

Amino acids are building blocks of protein and also participate in metabolic activities. The twenty two amino acids of proteins are of vast chemical versatility. The biological activity of the protein depends on the chemical properties of amino acids of the proteins. Interestingly the necessary information to determine the way the protein would fold into a three dimensional structure and the stability of that structure are determined by the amino acid sequences contained in the protein. Protein folding and its stability still remain a tantalizing mystery to researchers.

All the twenty two amino acids are necessary for humans to be healthy and the human body can produce only fourteen of them and the rest eight have to be obtained through food. And if you fail to obtain even one of the eight amino acids it would lead to degradation of health.

Complete Protein

Food material that contains all the amino acids chains in the form of proteins is called complete protein. That is, consuming that food daily will maintain the required amount of protein to the body and keeps the body healthy. Milk stands out as the best complete protein food. While 25% of protein to Americans comes from diary products, even in the most backward countries milk still remains the most preferred food for growing children.

The casein of milk or the chain structure of amino acids of milk are unique and differ vastly from other proteins. The fat stability of the milk is due to the unique quality of the milk protein or due to the casein structure.

There are five kinds of casein in milk namely Casein, alpha casein, beta casein, kappa casein and gamma casein all with different chain structures and with different number of chains in each molecule. These proteins of milk with their specific properties and interactions in spite of high fat content in the milk, keeps the viscosity of the milk in tact. Based on their structure and physicochemical characters the major proteins of milk are divided into two groups and they are the casein and whey. They behave vastly differently.

Casein

The ‘whole casein’ in character and application can be defined as heterogeneous group of phosphoproteins gained from raw skimmed milk. 83 percent of total milk protein is casein protein powder and as earlier mentioned there are four major and one minor casein. Extensive study of the structure of proteins of milk helps nutrition experts to advice as to what kind of milk should be consumed.

The amino acid sequence of alpha casein has 199 amino acids and one segment of the molecule chain between 45 and 89 is highly charged and contains all 8 phosphate groups and 12 carboxyl groups and 2 epsilon amino groups.

25 – 35 percent of total casein is made of Beta casein and it is made of 209 amino acids. The molecule contains 5 phosphates and contains 17% praline randomly distributed throughout the molecule. The segment of molecules from 1 to 42 contains all the phosphate groups. The remaining 80 percent of molecule is very hydrophobic.

Gamma casein comprises of 5% of the total casein of milk and is of heterogeneous group of proteins. Gamma caseins happen due to proteolysis of beta casein. The enzyme plasmid which comes from the blood into the milk in small amounts starts the process of proteolysis to form gamma casein.

Kappa casein is made of 169 amino acids and has one serine phosphate group and two cytosine residues. The 53C terminal amino acids have one phosphate group and all the carbohydrate associated with kappa casein. One important character observed about kappa casein is that the casein micelles size seems to reduce when kappa casein is introduced to milk.

Understanding the structure and properties of casein becomes essential as milk is the best nutrient in the world till date and used widely all over the world.

Harvard research on the affects of taking creatine

Creatine is a substance that serves as an energy supplier to the muscle and nerves. These are usually synthesized in the human body from three amino acids that are the sub units of proteins. In a non-professional’s language, Creatine is something that is derived from proteins and hence serves as the energy suppliers, as protein.

The athletes use creatine for enhancing the body’s performance. Creatine is found in high quantities in our bodies at sites where there is maximum energy loss or energy burn. This is because; Creatine helps in maintaining or in compensating for the huge amount of energy loss in that particular site.

It is a derivative of the amino acids arginine and glycine. It is important in the muscle for the storage of phosphate for the re synthesis of ATP molecules in the body. It is widely sold as supplements to increase athletic performance and also to improve the energy levels in a physically weak person. In general a person’s body has 120 grams of creatine as such and is distributed as given below: 98% in muscles, 1.5% in nervous tissue and 0.5% in other organs. As supplement the recommended dosage is about 1 gram per day.

A study conducted by the Harvard Medical School included a study in 64 clinical trial models. These were tested against Huntington Disease. Creatine was given as a supplement and the recommended dosage was about 8 grams for 4 months. It was found that administration of creatine reduced the elevated Huntington disease to a large extent. This was one study made in the Harvard Medical School for studying the effects of creatine monohydrate and its positive effects in humans.

The energy lost by our body during any kind of exhaustion is regenerated by Creatine, in that sense it acts as energy rebuild. The body produces enough and more of Creatine that is required by the body for various functions. People who are in the sports field take synthetic Creatine as a supplement to revitalize their strength and energy.

Creatine as such is not harmful for the health, but this way of administering synthetic Creatine, which is more than what an individual’s body requires, is harmful for the health. Not all types of muscles respond to Creatine supplementation, the body which already has high levels of Creatine will not be benefited by the administration of some amount of Creatine to serve as energy booster, whereas the body which is deficient in Creatine would definitely see a difference in the energy levels.

What is of concern here is that, sports people tend to take synthetic Creatine just because they will get a higher dose of Creatine with a lesser calorie food. To derive sufficient quantities of Creatine in the body, it is essential to have a proper diet. This is of major concern to athletes since having more calorific food may result in increasing the body mass. So they usually adopt this way to gain the required amount of Creatine into the body taking into consideration the fact that their calorie intake is not increased.
Creatine is widely used supplement in the Olympics, with the only concern being risks of kidney failure if taken in considerable larger quantities. There are different kinds of creatine supplements available in the market. These include creatine chew, powders or tablets as such.

In a non-professional’s language, Creatine produced by the body can be considered as fuel for a vehicle, but the administration of synthetic Creatine is like using a special oil along with the normal fuel for the better performance of the vehicle.

Administration of Creatine for a short time as a therapy is ok, but when taken in large quantities as an addiction, it results in disorders like hypertension and leads to occasional dehydration.

Along with these negative aspects discussed above, Creatine also has a huge market in therapeutics. It is of therapeutic value and is used against muscular disorders like arthritis, Parkinson’s disease and other diseases involving neurological disorders.
Thus, Creatine when used in the appropriate quantities can definitely serve to be of use unless individuals do not take upon it as an addiction.

This video describes the differences in how four top diet pills work and why they are great at assisting weight loss. When choosing a weight loss supplement like a diet pill, there are different things to consider, mainly the active ingredient in each pill. Some pills that contain legal ephedra are stimulants that raise the metabolism and give a tremendous amount of energy, while others simply supply the body with nutrients that assist the body in choosing fat as a fuel source during the day and during exercise. This video takes a look at the following supplements: Stimerex-ES by Hi-Tech, Lean Out by Beverly International, Xenistat by Hi-Tech, and Hydroxycut by Muscletech.

What are the positive benefits of protein supplementation

Proteins are the building block of muscles and are required by everybody for the growth and repair. The units of protein are called as amino acids that make a particular sequence to form a particular protein with different functions.

There are two types of amino acids that make up the proteins, the essential amino acids and the non essential amino acids. Proteins are required by everyone as a major nutrient in their every day diet.

Proteins play different roles in the body like they act as the building blocks of the body, provides energy to the body, repairs exhausted cells of the body, controls the process of metabolism in the body.

The body can make non essential amino acids in the body from other amino acids that are present in the body. But the body is not capable of making essential amino acids and this can be achieved only by consuming proper diet rich in proteins. Complete proteins are nothing but foods that contain all the essential as well as non essential amino acids.

Proteins may differ in various aspects from one another. The differences may be seen in quality, rate of absorption, taste, the level of purity, the number of amino acids it contains, the function of the protein, the fat content etc.

Whey protein is supposed to be the complete protein and is accepted worldwide for it being used as a complete protein containing all the essential amino acids. The protein needs in every individual differs due to many reasons. Some of the reasons are age, sex, amount of physical activity done by that person, height, weight and the life style the person leads.

Whey protein isolate is the purest form of whey protein powders available and it consists of 90% protein. It is considered to be a good source of protein for people who are on diets. People on a low carbohydrate diet can have whey protein as a major part of their diet to increase the metabolic rate of the body. Pregnant women can include whey protein. Since many are allergic to soy proteins, appropriate quantities of proteins can be achieved by a pregnant lady by incorporating whey protein in her diet for a healthy body and also for the health of the baby.

Protein also forms a major component of any weight loss program. Proteins with no fat and carbohydrates are the preferred choices of proteins in the diet followed by people who are keen to lose weight. Proteins included in diets help in managing your life style in a healthy manner.

In today’s world, the market has many products like protein powders which help you manage your life style to a great extent. Natural proteins are not palatable, but scientists have worked upon and come to conclusions in which the flavor of the proteins can be masked effectively by the use of other strong flavors.

In today’s world, where there is lot of stress and work related competition, it becomes highly impossible to take a proper nutritious meal at proper time intervals. At this point, protein shakes, protein bars and protein powders do make a large difference in the life style of an individual. Consumption of protein in any way makes you healthy and strong.

A diet rich in protein is the major meal for people who tend to skip breakfast due to their busy schedule. Any protein drink or energy bar can replace the breakfast, making it quicker and a stronger and healthy breakfast for them to maintain their metabolic rates in control.

The best source for proteins is egg and whey and any product made from this will have a high content of protein thereby making it a protein rich meal. Soy proteins are not generally recommended since they do cause lot of allergic responses to many people.

Proteins are an important part of your diet, but not proteins alone. It is always better to take multi vitamin supplements along with proteins if you are taking a pure form of protein. In case the shake or bar itself consists of other essential nutrients, then that may be of great help to suffice the body needs. This must be kept in mind while planning your diet, since the right combination of all essential nutrients along with proteins, vitamins, carbohydrates, fat and other essential minerals also contribute a lot towards general well being.

Do you lose weight with using Hydroxycut

Hydroxycut is a nutritional supplement that is a product of MuscleTech. It is a supplement that is said to aid in losing weight. It is generally found in retail stores like GNC and Wal-Mart. You get a better price by buying online from Shop LIVE. It is said to increase the metabolism and reduce the food cravings. The best strategy used in marketing this products is that it is devoid of Ephedra, which is also a weight reducing supplement widely used. Ephedra is said to have lot of side effects and there are studies that prove that an individual does get addicted to the consumption of Ephedra in a longer run.

Studies claim that the ingredient sin Hydroxycut helps a person to lose 4.5 times the weight that they could lose by dieting and exercising. The major ingredients in Hydroxycut include garcinia cambogia, gymnema sylvestre, chromium polynicotinate, caffeine, green tea, all of which have said to have a major role to be played in losing weight. For example, garcinia cambogia is a natural fat burner that helps in burning excess accumulated fat in the body. Caffeine and green tea are antioxidants that aid in cleansing the body of all toxic wastes.

Thus all the ingredients together play a major role and bring about the desired fat loss in a short span of time and that too effectively. Though this product is not clinically proven to be a fat burner, the major ingredients individually do have a property to help in shedding extra kilos from a body. Hence the controversy of Hydroxycut really working on a body to lose fat is still there.

There are lots of good as well as bad effects of Hydroxycut. First let us see the beneficial side of the same. Hydroxycut is very inexpensive and affordable by people of all classes to attain weight reduction nevertheless like other high end products where you have to spend too much finally to discover that it does not work on you.

One more advantage in using Hydroxycut is that it starts working on the body immediately. The results can be seen visibly before you finish the first bottle of the supplement. Hydroxycut works all by its own. There is not a need to do regular exercise along with this nutritional supplement. Even without exercising results can be seen efficiently and exercises can always be an add-on where result are seen much faster.

Some of the negative aspects in using Hydroxycut are as mentioned below. Hydroxycut contains a lot of caffeine and many people are not used to consuming so much caffeine In this case certain side effects like nausea and giddiness may be seen till you get used to the caffeine content in Hydroxycut. It is proved that it is this high caffeine content along with the other fat burners that aid in higher metabolic rates and faster burning of fat.

There are two types of diet pills available in Hydroxycut, with caffeine and without caffeine. The only difference being in both is that the one with caffeine actually starts working fast and shows a visible difference in the weight in a month whereas the one without caffeine takes a longer time to show results. Many people mistake that the ones without caffeine do not work since they cannot find out results as early as in a month. But as mentioned above, it is the high content of caffeine present in the pills that aids in higher metabolic rates and faster burning of fats.
It is a definite and sure shot reasoning that the pills that are caffeine free take a longer time to show results. But discontinuing the usage in a month because it does not show results is not the correct way since these caffeine less pills take a minimum of 2-3 months to show a visible weight reduction in an individual.

It contains negligible amount of ephedrine that is a stimulant. Though it is negligible and can be neglected there are few issues associated with it.

If a comparison is done on the positive health benefits and the negative side of Hydroxycut it is seen that it does have a strong positive base that proves s that it is helpful in losing weight.

The side effects as a result of consumption of Hydroxycut do not stay longer and it is relatively a safe supplement to be used by any one in order to shed those few extra kilos that bother them.

However if an individual is already under some medication, it is very important to consult the doctor and then start using Hydroxycut since there may be synergistic effects of the drug used and Hydroxycut that may lead to complications.

Thus the correct dosage as mentioned with the consultation of a physician to avoid any great complications definitely will prove the worth of Hydroxycut as a dietary supplement to lose weight in a faster and easy manner.

What you need to know about egg albumen as a protein source

Eggs are supposed to be a very high energy source food. It is especially very rich in proteins. Eggs have almost all the nutrition required by the body like proteins, vitamins, minerals etc. The only vitamin that does not constitute the part of the egg is Vitamin C.

The vitamins present in eggs include Vitamin A, Vitamin D and Vitamin E. All these vitamins play an important role in the day to day activities of the human body.

Vitamin A is essential for normal development and growth of the whole body in general. Vitamin D present in egg yolk helps in maintaining a strong and sturdy bone health. Along with bone health, vitamin D is also responsible for excellent mineral absorption in the body.

Vitamin E plays a major role in protecting the heart from certain cardiovascular risks and also protects the body from some varieties of cancer,

Egg also contains Iodine and phosphorus that helps in maintaining strong teeth and bone health along with certain hormonal functions like it helps in the functioning of the thyroids hormones.

The protein content found in eggs is excellent and it contains all the necessary proteins required by the body for its normal development and growth. It is one of the widely used ingredients in people who go on a protein rich diet.

Eggs also contain albumin and glutamine which act as energizers when absorbed into the body.

Eggs are generally preferred by many in their daily diet since it is economical and fulfils the nutritional needs of almost everybody. The cost involved in using or taking eggs as a staple diet is much lesser when compared to other protein rich foods.

It also helps in building lean mass with all the nutrition it provides since it leaves you with a lesser appetite as compared to other foods consumed. Egg once consumed does not make you feel hungry for the next six to eight hours. This thereby acts as a meal replacement therapy in the nutritional language.

To avoid risks of contamination and infection, it is always advisable to cook the eggs before consumption since cooking will kill all the harmful bacteria present on the surface as well as in the egg, thereby making it much safer for consumption.

The eggs can be maintained fresh by storing them at lower temperatures or by refrigerating them.

The nutritional value the body gets by consuming 1 cup or to be precise 243 grams of eggs are as given below. The calories that a body obtains from 243 grams eggs are about 347-350 calories, with the calories from fat being 217 calories. The total fat content in 1 cup egg is 24 grams, the percentage daily value being 37%. The saturated fat content is 8 grams and constitutes 37% of the daily percentage value. The cholesterol obtained from the 1 cup or 243 grams of eggs is 1028 mg and constitutes to 343% daily value.
The sodium content is 340 mg and the percentage daily value is about 15%. The total carbohydrates are 2 grams and constitute about 1% of the total daily percentage value. The sugar content is 2 grams which can be consumed even by diabetic people.

The total protein content is 31 grams and hence eggs are said to be a very rich source of protein diet.

The percentage of vitamins and minerals present is eggs are as given below. Vitamin A comprises of 25 %, Calcium 13% and Iron 25%. Eggs are not a source for vitamin C as mentioned earlier and the contribution toward vitamin C is nil or 0%.

The percentage daily values mentioned above for all the nutrients are based on a 2000 calorie diet chart. Depending on a person’s daily calorie needs, the percentage values may vary, that is may be higher or lower.

According to a general survey made on the nutritional characteristics of eggs, people have rated it as stated below. The food seems to be a diet which has sufficient quantities of Riboflavin, Vitamin B12 and phosphorus and other related minerals. It is also a good source of protein and albumin. But, it has been said to be a relatively bad diet for people with cholesterol since this is high in saturated fat and cholesterol levels.

In addition, it also helps a lot in providing good amount of energy to the human body. After exercise proteins shakes offer aid recovery because proteins or amino acids are in the position to regenerate the lean tissue as well as the much required energy. However, proteins provide more energy only when they are combined with carbohydrates.

The answer of the above question is that after exercise if the person goes for drinking of protein in liquid form then it has higher rate of gastric emptying and thus it ensures proper absorption. This unit is well versed with amplified insulin secretion which later helps in improving the proteins uptakes into aid recovery and muscles cells.

Among various nutrients, protein plays a very important role. Here in this article we are going to talk about the protein rich food and its significance for the human body.

Proteins are very essential for physical growth of the person. Digestive enzymes are responsible to breakdown proteins in the form of amino acids. These amino acids are used for the production of new proteins as well as for muscles and bones repair. They also participate in cell repair and maintenance. Proteins are made by the human body continuously and thus body consumes them continuously in order to maintain the functioning of internal organs and cells. In addition, protein helps to heal up major or minor cuts as well as abrasions quickly.

It is a fact that proteins, other then participating in development of body also plays very essential role in order to provide very healthy skin as well as beautiful hair to the person. Body utilizes proteins in order to build antibodies, hormones and enzymes.

It is also worth to note that proteins are important for every person irrespective of age. Still, they are considered to be very essential at the growing stage of infants, children and teens. Thus, at this time protein rich foods is very necessary for them.

Proteins are very crucial nutritional contents required by the human body. Thus, it is very important to have such kind of balanced diet that has protein rich foods.

Generally, people are unaware about several food stuffs that are rich in proteins other than some common protein rich foods. Given below are some of the protein rich foods as consumed by most of the people even in their day-to-day life.

Milk
Eggs
Soy milk
Cheese
Peanut butter
Yogurt
Fish, Poultry and lean meats
Tofu, legumes, lentils and beans
Grains, including pasts and bread
Seeds and nuts

It is very easy to search protein rich foods just by reading the food labels as well as looking for such food materials that are rich in proteins.

Fortified protein rich foods:

You can buy some quality protein supplement as well as food materials that naturally have proteins in them. Some proteins supplements like protein powders, protein drink mixes etc are in high demand.

Some protein rich foods liked by kids:

You can go with such great ideas that include combined protein rich foods in order to make it healthier like cheeseburger. You can include fresh vegetables, cheese, meat and a bun made up of wholemeal flour to make it enriched in proteins. Children enjoy such food stuffs in taste and at the same time they also get the required proportion of proteins easily.

Some other protein rich foods liked by children are: Tuna fish-sandwich, cheese pizza, jelly sandwich, peanut butter, macaroni, cheese, and grilled cheese-sandwich.

Right amount of proteins is very significant for body. However, too much protein may be harmful for health. Any diet that has protein rich foods in very high quantity would increase the risk of high content of cholesterol in the body. Protein rich foods also have lots of saturated fats that in turn lead to several heart diseases.

There are several nutrients present that are considered very important for the human body. All nutrients that are required by the body have one or the other role to play. Among various nutrients present, protein is one such nutrient that is known for providing best results.

Proteins are known as nutritional content and structured by lengthy chains of building blocks called as amino-acids. Sequences of these amino acids decide the particular characteristics of proteins and its functions as well.

There are approximately twenty or more amino-acids well known. These amino-acids are divided into two categories that are:

Essential amino-acids

Non-Essential amino-acids

Both categories are vitally significant for the health of human’s body.

List of amino acids: Essential and non-essential:

Human body is capable to produce only specific type of proteins. Essential amino acids are those that cannot be produced by human body. Thus, in case of their requirement, outside sources like food or protein supplements are used. However, non-essential amino acids are those that can easily produced by human’s body or they can be taken from daily diet also.

List of amino acids: The following are some of the amino acids that are considered to be Essential. They are as under:
Isoleucine
Leucine
Methionine (and cystine)
Lysine
Thrionine
Phenylalanine
Tryptophan
Valine

All the above amino acids are considered very important for the human body. Their role differs for elders as well as for younger ones. For example in case of the new born, histidine is considered as very important protein is required for the physical growth. Thus deficiency of this amino acid leads to improper growth of the child

List of amino acids: The following are some of the Non-Essential amino acids. They are as under:

Aspartic acid
Alanine
Glycine
Glutamic acid
Serine
Tyrosine

So, from above list of amino acids you can know about the most essential as well as non-essential amino acids that your body generally requires.

The basic requirement of proteins is increased in the body at the time of physical growth like during pregnancy, breast feeding, and infancy, recovery from the weight loss and burns or in healing.

Amino acids are protein’s building blocks that are often body’s building block. Thus, you can further divide the list of amino acids in two types:

Saturated proteins: These types of proteins are found in bones, muscles, connective tissue and in cell wall (lesser extent).

Functional proteins: These sorts of proteins include hormones present in human body such as thyroid and insulin, digestive enzymes as well as antibodies.

In addition, other than proteins, amino acids are also used in body molecules like neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitter is a kind of molecule present in human body that transmits electrical nerve impulse in the human brain.

So, you can say that amino acids perform several functions in human body. Minerals, essential fatty-acids and vitamins are considered as major supplements of nutrition. However, amino acids with other important functions are also used to provide some therapeutic benefits.

Certain type of amino acid or protein is required in high demand in particular disease. Thus, at that particular time, requirement of specific amino acid may increase in human body. This high requirement cannot be satisfied only through diet alone. Hence, in order to fulfill the requirement some other protein supplements are also required. In other conditions, metabolism of particular amino acid may be disturbed through few pharmaceutical drugs. For example: anti-inflammatory drug mainly used for treatment of arthritis directly affects metabolism of the trytophan.

Here is a list of amino acids and their utilization:

Arginine: Used to improve sperm motility and sperm count in men.

Lysine: Particularly used for recurrent cold-sores as well as for herpes infections.

Phenylalanine: Used in treatment of depression and pain.

Tryptophan: This amino acid is studied by scientists more as compared to other amino acids. Its level in the blood and arthritis are associated with each other. High level of this amino acid is also found in the jaundice. It is used for depression especially if insomnia’s symptoms are present.

Histidine: It is mainly use for rheumatoid arthritis.

Tyrosine: It is also used for the treatment of depression.

Thus from the above list of Amino acids you can understand their utility for the human body.
